These beloved images of Pigpen (Ron McKernan) were taken by Herb Greene in 1967, and are among the most well-known, intimate, and sought after images of the famed bluesman and early frontman for the Grateful Dead.

In Eugene, Oregon in the Spring of 2021 a stash of personal items was brought out from long-storage. Among the ephemera and other items were a stunning set of unnumbered and signed photographic prints, belonging to the late Johnny Hagen. Johnny was a foundational crew member since his brother Mike sent him down when the band started to need help. Mike Hagen is Ken Kesey’s college pal and Merry Prankster #0 (“Mal Function” character in Electric Kool Aid Acid Test). Mike has been in possession of these items and is presentor and signer of the Certificate of Authenticity, boosting these photos’ already extraordinary value and place in cultural history.
